Some of the most popular colors in designing, housekeeping, and homemaking right now are green and blue. If these aren’t colors your normally decorate with, you might not be sure how to pair them well to make them look great in a space.

One good color that can be used in a lot of different ways (and is therefore very decorator-friendly) is turquoise. It’s rich vibrancy combined with the cool burst of color make for a balanced space.

1. Combine with neutrals for an anchored appearance. Turquoise is a color that can be both rich and lofty, so it needs a neutral to make it anchored. You can go light and airy with white or you can opt for a more rich tone with browns, but you can’t go wrong with either one—pick the neutral you like the best and most suits the look you’re going for.

2. Lots of light. The amount and type of light in a room changes the way it’s perceived. Light against lighter colors makes a room look bigger—the reflection changes the way your eyes determine the size of the room, and this has a huge impact!

Also, light can intensify the colors in the room, and control over the amount of light can enhance the way you use your space—invest in lots of natural light, great light fixtures, and dimmer switches to make your room complete and versatile.

3. Combine vibrant accents. So you have a neutral base and you have your turquoise, but what about other colors? It’s okay to add more colors to the mix as great accent colors. There are some bright colors that will look great alongside turquoise, especially a rich purple.

What do you think, would you use turquoise in your house? How would you use it?
